Aurora School: Launching its Middle School in the Fall of 2021!
Aurora’s Board of Trustees and Head of School Abbie Koss are proud to announce the opening of an Aurora middle school in the fall of 2021! Since 1988 Aurora has blazed a trail for K-5 progressive education in the Bay Area and will now extend its mission to grades six through eight, adding one grade each year for the following three. Abbie Koss remarked, “We are thrilled to open a middle school that will excite and engage students of these ages in dynamic ways. Curriculum-based expeditions, outdoor learning, and apprenticeships will extend learning beyond the school walls and ensure that we produce the young minds that our society and the world at large need.”
An independent school nestled in Upper Rockridge, Aurora has championed progressive education for over 30 years. Our students' minds are sharp, and their hearts are open. In them, our teachers foster academic strength and the ability to solve problems on the one hand, and communication and social justice on the other. Whether students or teachers, parents or staff, our tightly knit community practices kindness, embraces difference, and moves through the world with intention. Now more than ever, Aurora School's small size is an advantage.
With the advent of COVID-19, our teachers and staff adapted to remote learning overnight. At the moment, Aurora is in remote learning mode yet prepared for hybrid (in-class and remote) learning, pending local and state mandates and health regulations.
